On a mission to find its next ‘A-Team’ of junior IT consultants and developers, The NAV | 365 People is running a specialist training academy.
Students will be paid to train and on completion of the training, successful graduates will be offered positions and a wide-ranging choice of career-paths within the company, making this academy unique.
The NAV | 365 People specialises in Microsoft Dynamics NAV | 365 Business Central - one of the world’s most popular Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. As the technology continues to set new standards and the customer-base grows and diversifies, it means The NAV | 365 People is in the fortunate position of being able to help train the next generation of IT professionals.
‘An incredible opportunity’
Operations Director at The NAV | 365 People, David Walker, says: “This training academy is an incredible opportunity to learn all of the skills you need to become a consultant on Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Dynamics 365 Business Central technology. It will give you everything you need to start a career in this exciting sector – whether it’s in product development, operations, project management, customer services, account management, IT engineering, finance, training or sales and marketing.
“By becoming part of this amazing team of people in this young, vibrant organisation, it could change your life. It will set you up on a career that will be both exciting and rewarding in the longer term, and it will open up all sorts of opportunities for you in the future.”
A passion for technology is a ‘must’
The company is seeking young women and men with a passion for computer technology - ideally with a computer-related qualification from a college or university (but not essential), and preferably with some experience in the IT industry – to turn them into highly-skilled IT professionals.
The academy offers in-depth training
Based at The NAV | 365 People’s head office near Newbury, on the West Berkshire/Hampshire border, this extraordinary academy offers in-depth training in small groups including one-to-one mentoring with experts in their fields..
Held over six weeks, the academy is primarily aimed at teaching the basics of software development and navigating around the Dynamics NAV | 365 Business Central system, as well as increasing personal skills.
Once trainees have successfully graduated, they will be rotated between teams to get all available experience and then placed in positions within the company based on their skillset, for example, if they are stronger on development and operations they may join that team, or if they are more creative, they might join the product development team.
Graduates from earlier academies are now professional IT consultants
Still in their 20s, graduates from the 2015 and 2016 academies have made their way up the ranks of The NAV | 365 People and many now hold senior positions. Here’s a look at the career progression of just three academy graduates:
Josh (28) is a 2015 academy graduate who progressed into a web development role and internal IT before becoming part of the operations development team. He was promoted to the team lead role and has recently become the technical lead of our managed services department.
“It’s been a good turnaround in four years. Life changing, in fact!” says Josh. “If someone is keen to work and has a good eye for detail, is willing and capable of learning and wants to be challenged and set on a career path – it’s certainly something they should consider getting into.”
Another 2015 graduate, Zac (24), began doing an apprenticeship with The NAV | 365 People then moved across to the academy. Prior to that, he had a BTEC level ICT (Information Communication Technology) and some minor IT work experience during term breaks. He started in customer support, moved across to the project office team where he became project office manager and now he is a project manager.
“The academy accelerated my career tremendously,” Zac says. “I was never a ‘techy’ in terms of skillset and it wasn’t until the academy that I got into the technical side of things, but I always had an interest in IT and in the latest technologies out there. I knew I’d end up working in an IT-orientated role.
“It’s not handed to you on a plate by any means but if you have the right attitude, commitment and mentality towards the process and learning from others, you won’t look back.”
‘The academy changed my life!’
And finally, after completing only one year of a computer science course at college, David (23) found himself working full-time at a fast-food company. He thought that job was going to be ‘it’, until a friend suggested he apply to The NAV | 365 People.
David was accepted into the academy, and four years later, he is still with the company, working in customer support and doing consultancy work, which he thoroughly enjoys.
“I have a career, a car, and I live by myself. Most of my friends who went to university have just finished – but they still live with their parents. The academy changed my life! I’ve got to see the world and get paid for it, which doesn’t happen to many people my age. It’s pretty cool, considering what I was doing before!”
