Customised approach for international roll out

International organisations implementing new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system or finance solutions have multiple challenges, not least of which is physical presence and the need to involve staff on multiple time zones and geographies to engage in a project. In addition, there are often internal politics involved when trying to roll out a solution which has potentially been selected in a single territory or when ‘head office’ decides to implement a solution is often seen as ‘being imposed’.

Aside from the people issues involved, implementing Dynamics 365 Business Central (previously called Dynamics NAV) in an international organisation requires an understanding of the options of deployment and the best fit for the ‘type’ of organisation you are. In our opinion the solution being implemented should best mirror how you operate. Are you a centralised controlling organisation or a decentralised organisation looking too make improvements through a balance of standard processes and data, leaving autonomy to subsidiaries? Indeed are you simply accounting for multiple geographies with little need for local staff to be doing more than providing input or interfaces of data and thus only having limited activity in your various geographies?

Dynamics NAV / Business Central allows for many different implementation strategies for global operations. The key issue is how to control data and modification requirements. In a centralised project, data such as the chart of accounts may be standardised to allow easy reporting and items or customers linked across territories to allow for consolidated debt exposure or stock visibility across geographies to be easily accessed. System requirements and potential changes to the solution may be controlled either by a central team acting as gate keepers or guidelines provided and autonomy given to local organisations. Dynamics NAV / Business Central is designed with internationalisation at its core, from local legal functionality to language and local country support.

Often global companies, or multi-geography companies, will have inter-company requirements, for example both buying and selling between companies as well as accounting for centrally purchased costs. Consolidation of accounting information is also supported, including partial consolidation based on shareholding and also taking into account multi-currencies.
